A Wish for More

Adriana Iliescu, a young Romanian 24-year-old, gets married in hopes of starting a family and adorning her small haven full of love and happiness, but fate intervenes, and it is all over within four years. She is divorced, and her dream of having a child is put on hold.

The woman consoles herself, thinking thirties won't be too old for parenthood. Focusing on her career, Adriana becomes a university lecturer and keeps on wishing that one day she'll meet someone good enough to become her children's father. A desire burns in her mind so intense that it leads to a life-changing decision for Adriana.

Somethings Aren’t Meant to Be

Adriana desperately wants to be a mother, but she doesn't want just anyone to be her baby's father. The hopeful woman wishes to find a connection, or maybe, even love!

After multiple failed relationships, Adriana feels increasingly hopeless. Maybe it's all a sign that she should give up now. The lecturer is already past her prime age, and having a child this late in life is only inviting more complications. Adriana's mind is following this train of thought, but somewhere else, fate is cooking up a beautiful thing for her.

 A Friend Indeed

It's been more than two decades of staying on her own and waiting for a miracle, but life isn't cutting her slack. Not finding a good enough man for herself, Adriana gives up entirely on her life-long dream, but then everything changes when she hears probably the most exciting news ever.

Adriana can have a baby on her own using In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF). A doctor-friend suggests to her that she should go through the procedure. She isn't convinced, however, as something is stopping her from taking the leap of faith. What could be more important than getting a chance to fulfill her most cherished dream?

I’m Too Old for This

Adriana is hesitant—the thought that it's possible to have a baby this easily is making her anxious more than happy. Thinking too much, but for all the right reasons, Adriana wants to make the correct choice. At 56, her age is a factor she can't ignore, no matter how much she wants to hold a child in her arms.

A pregnancy in the late thirties is complicated enough, so going through the procedure now will be more dangerous—it may even kill her. Is the fear of losing her life going to stop Adriana from finally pursuing her desire to become a mother?

Already Too Late, Is It?

Adriana has had her menopause already, so there's no chance she could become pregnant naturally. But the doctor-friend who has seen her struggle through her entire life suggests another treatment to help with IVF procedures.

Menopause reversal will be administered to Adriana first, and then doctors will move on to the next step-giving this woman a chance to conceive.  She could indeed lose her life, but the thought of giving birth to her child is more valuable to Adriana than her fears. Emotionally, she decides for herself, which may not turn out to be the right choice.

Nothing to Lose

Hope has been budding inside Adriana’s heart ever since her doctor-friend advised on IVF treatment. The fear of complications did take her determination down a notch, but the fire of yearning didn’t extinguish.

Adriana wants a child, no matter the complications. Willing to undergo the procedure, she is happy that the most awaited day of her life is finally near. In her fifties, there is very little chance that the treatment will be successful, but Adriana is way past caring about numbers and science. The woman is hopeful now, but it could soon lead to disappointment.

The First Day of a Good Life

It is 1995, and Adriana’s wait is over. She will embark on a new journey, not knowing where her life will take her. The first order of business before administering the IVF procedure is to make sure her hormones are working again.

The aim is to provide Adriana with menopause reversal treatments and, eventually, a functioning reproductive system. It’s not a one-day task either, it is going to be a long process, and nobody knows how long it might last. It may be a while before Adriana is given IVF treatment. Will she be able to hold on for that long?

Determined to Handle the Pain

After living alone for decades, Adriana now realizes that it has never been so hard to go through something on her own. The treatment is working, but the pain and hormonal imbalance accompanying the whole process is taking its toll.

It's been a while since the reversal treatment started, and yet, there's no sign that the doctor will administer IVF anytime soon. Adriana still does not feel like losing herself in the whirlwind of emotions, but all the hard work and treatments are painful. She has a horrible feeling that this journey may be over before her dream is fulfilled.

A Decade of Waiting

The journey continues as Adriana has no other choice but to wait anxiously for a decade before the good news finally arrives. She will be given IVF very soon - the menopause reversal treatment is working correctly, and her chance at conceiving successfully is predictively strong.

Hearing this hopeful news, Adriana becomes more energized than a 65-year-old should be. Age is not limiting her anymore, and this woman is ready to go through all the extra pain so that she can give birth. It's not her willpower that will cause a problem now, it's her age and worn-out body that may lose the fight before Adriana does!

And Finally…

Despite all the inhibitions, the little ray of light inside Adriana's heart keeps giving her hope that she will get through this hard time. The IVF procedure is finished, and now it's time to wait. For Adriana, this small waiting period is nothing compared to the years and years of longing.

She never dreamed that she'd be a mother in her sixties and now look at her - already half-way there. After what felt like an eternal wait, it's confirmed now that Adriana is pregnant! The new mother was ready to hear this for decades, but she is not prepared for the other news that shocks her into silence.

The Revelation

Being pregnant is a blessing for Adriana, but when the doctor reveals that she is having triplets, the woman is over the moon! She is a bit nervous, though, thinking how someone in their sixties will be able to give birth to three babies, let alone take care of them.

Adriana thinks she got more than she wanted, despite that, her resolve of going through the pregnancy hasn't deterred yet. Going for regular checkups, taking multi-vitamins, and eating healthy food-all the good habits are paying off, and the babies are fine, but a mishap was imminent in pregnancy like this.

A Battle Lost

Prepared for anything during the pregnancy, Adriana is heartbroken to hear that all three fetuses are not doing well. It has been ten weeks, and one of the fetuses has already stopped growing. The doctors declare that one baby is no more.

Adriana's heart is broken, but she keeps on moving forward. The other two babies are okay for now, and that is satisfactory news for her. She takes better care of herself to make sure her children are growing in a calm environment, but all the care and precautions are useless when once again, Adriana has to face the harsh reality.

The Gender Reveal

Adriana always knew that there would be risks involved, but her decision to go full-term didn't change, and now she has to face the challenges. For the next few months, there is no good or bad change in the babies' health, and Adriana is somewhat relieved. She goes for her ultrasound appointment, where the gender of the two fetuses is revealed.

They are both girls! Adriana didn't have any preference, so she is ecstatic, knowing that two little bundles of joy are growing inside her womb. They may not be healthy like other babies of their age, but they are alive and breathing - until the 33rd week.

A Crucial Situation

The mother's age and other health factors are making this pregnancy turn into a difficult one. Both girls are weak, one weighs around 3 pounds, and the other, approximately 1 pound-this is making the doctor worry about Adriana's life. What if she's not able to go full term?

Sadly, after the 33rd week, the weaker of the two sisters dies inside the womb, and Adriana's doctor has to make a tough decision. They have to operate sooner than anticipated and get the last baby out before any more complications terminate this pregnancy completely. The decision to perform a C-section early proves crucial for Adriana and her baby.

It’s Time for The Big Day

Everything is set for the big day, and Adriana is waiting desperately to see her baby girl born. She has been waiting for so long to give birth that now it almost feels like a dream, but the vitals of the baby and the severity of her situation make everything seem more real than ever.

The doctors are confident that waiting for another month is not an option anymore, an early procedure is the right choice, and so they begin. Adriana's miracle baby is born on 16 January 2005, she is fine for now, but needs supervision and there is a high chance that she may not survive for long.

Adriana Gets Her Wish

The baby girl is supposed to stay at the hospital for six weeks because the doctors fear her condition requires constant supervision. A child born to a 66-year-old woman through IVF will undoubtedly be weaker than a normal baby, but staying under 24-h observation serves crucial for the child, who is feeling much better now.

Eliza, the little angel is ready to greet the world! Adriana's happiness can't be controlled either, and she is too excited for her new life, which will be full of love and contentment. The new mother goes home with her baby girl, unaware of the feelings and thoughts going on around her.

Tough Days Aren’t Too Far

The social norms suggest that at her age, Adriana shouldn't be making a baby go through the pain of having an elderly mother. Everyone has declared the new mother selfish for bringing a child into the world where she is doomed from day one.

Adriana doesn't think so! She has too much affection for Eliza to care about what the people around her think. She had been waiting for this day since her twenties, and she will shower all the love on her little girl, but will the people understand this developing bond between an older mother and her newborn?

Criticism Vs Resolve

Adriana is not sure why no one supported her in the decision of having a baby so late in life. She is happy and healthy, and all the more capable of providing a good life to Eliza. The discernment is bringing her down a little, but not enough to damage her determination.

The mother's resolve is strong enough to help her support the baby during tough times like these. No matter what the people think, Adriana believes that she can raise a child on her own, but here comes the question - now that she is retired with a meager pension, how will it happen?

The Pension and The Baby

Adriana is strong-willed, but a $323 pension per month will not support her family. Besides, the baby requires a lot more than an adult anyway, so how is Adriana going to manage that?

She will have to find other ways to make money because she wants Eliza to have a fulfilled life. At 66, there aren't many options left for Adriana to choose from, so she can't be picky. Starting back as a part-timer after retirement, Adriana returns to her university to continue as a lecturer. Her struggles are not tiring, but the heartlessness of everyone around her is upsetting.

Curious Bystanders

People may resent Adriana for her decision, but their curiosity gets the better of them. They want to know more about the lady and her life as a mother of a newborn. It's interesting for everyone to see why she wanted to become a mother when most of her friends and colleagues were either becoming grandparents or planning their retirements.

With a unique story like this, the media got involved, and they want to know how a woman in her sixties is going to raise a child? Interviews and talk shows are becoming a part of Adriana and Eliza's life. People are curious now, but they won't be for long.

People Are Curious but Not Kind

It's unusual to know that a new mother is almost the age of someone's grandma and not just that, she is also living alone, supporting her child on her own. The world gets involved in this adoring story, but that doesn't mean everyone's supportive.

Criticism is part of this new game Adriana got involved in, but she knows how to play it. This mama is not listening to any negative comments about her choice of giving birth at this age, and she is, most certainly, not caring about that either. All she cares about is providing a good life for Eliza, but society doesn't understand her at all.

Media Helped for a While

People's curiosity is going strong for a while now, and thankfully, it's all in Adriana's favor because she is getting many benefits from it in terms of money. The media exposure is bringing in a decent amount for her to support Eliza.

But one question is always going through Adriana's mind-how long is this all going to last? Eventually, everyone will lose interest, and then Adriana will lose a source of income, but she thinks she is ready for it. As the time comes, Adriana has found another way to make enough money for her family.

Nothing Can Hurt Adriana’s Determination

No matter how hard life is, Adriana has decided she will focus on her daughter and raise her with all the love and affection she can provide. Even if it requires her to work harder than before. She has her pension and a part-time lecturer position, and now she will be writing children's novels to make more money.

Publishing her books, Adriana has another source of income, and her family is not suffering anymore. With years of love stored in her heart, she raises her daughter in a nurturing environment, making her a healthy and happy child. Adriana is working hard, which is finally taking its toll on her.

Working Hard for Family

Adriana has experience in staying alone and supporting herself. Despite her age, she is not backing down from her life's hardships and continues to work harder than ever. The woman is willing to do everything in her power to make sure Eliza never feels like she needs more.

The baby looks happy with her mother, and there's no sign that Adriana's age is hindering her motherhood. Looking at the baby girl, no one will be able to tell that she is being raised by an elderly woman who is a single mother. Eliza is growing up in a safe and healthy environment, and soon she will be starting school.

Eliza Is Growing Up Fast

It feels like yesterday for Adriana when she held Eliza in her arms for the first time and now look at the young child, and she is growing up faster than Adriana can keep track. The people around them feared that Eliza would be neglected due to Adriana's old age and deteriorating energy, but nothing as such happened.

She is the apple of her mother's eye, and though they are leading a somewhat harsh life, it's not sorrowful at all. As time passes, it brings worry to Adriana's mind that she won't be able to stay with her daughter forever. Eliza will be all alone in this world then!

Adriana Is Aging as Well

Eliza is growing up, which means Adriana is aging as well. From the sixties to the seventies, Adriana is getting older year by year, but her health is not a question mark yet. She is active and willing to stay healthy as long as her daughter needs her.

People might have criticized Adriana for being selfish and bringing a child into the world, but Adriana's dream was not self-centered at all. She just wanted to be called 'mum' and Eliza fulfilled her wish by fighting through a tough pregnancy. Now, it's Adriana's turn to confront her old age, and weakening health-this might be tougher than going through decades of waiting.

No Bad Habits for This One

Adriana thinks that her habit of staying away from alcohol and smoking is serving as a healthy lifestyle choice and helping her stay with her daughter longer. Her own mother died in her eighties, so Adriana's claim that she may live that long sounds somewhat justified.

If her health and family history are considered, then Eliza will be around 20 when Adriana loses her fight with life, but Eliza is not an adult yet, and she needs her mother. Adriana can give all the love she has to Eliza, but she won't be able to fight her death.

Despite The Social Rejection

Adriana's realization that she won't be with her daughter forever is raising questions in her mind regarding Eliza's wellbeing. They have always been outcasts, but Adriana made sure that despite all the hatred and disappointing looks she received, Eliza never feels socially rejected.

All thanks to her efforts, the young girl is unaffected by social cruelty and leads a pretty normal life. She did everything that a child does from being a toddler to a pre-teen. Nothing ever made Eliza question her identity or the way she was brought into this world. With this upbringing, she looks ready for anything that may come her way.

A Normal Teenager!

People would expect that a child who has been under the spotlight since birth would be socially awkward, but Eliza proves that her upbringing does not call for any inappropriate social behavior. Adriana has taught her well-how to be social and make friends, and most importantly, how to stay happy, despite the circumstances.

This normal family relationship that Adriana and Eliza share is what makes this girl an average teenager, who goes out with her friends and enjoys family time with her mom. What will happen when Adriana is not there to help her out-will Eliza be able to tackle life on her own?

 Better Late Than Never

Eliza doesn't have to worry about anything anytime soon because Adriana is as healthy and active as they come. It might be a scare to know that your elderly parent is fragile, but that does not mean Eliza is not enjoying her moments with her mom.

To some, it might have been a mistake, but for Adriana, it was all about giving her child loads of love so she could become a good person when they grow up, and that's exactly what happened! If you ask Adriana now, she'll say that there's enough energy in her to raise another child and mind you-she is in her 80s now!
