Hollywood stars are living their best life, riding expensive cars and private jets, and living in luxurious houses. Those on top of the list of the rich and famous may be mostly stars who appear in action films, but mixed with that are famous comedians.

With fat bank accounts, these famous comics are surely laughing all the way to the bank. Aside from investing in film productions to make their own movies, these funny actors and actresses have put their money in real estate properties, some to be lived in, with expensive home insurance premiums and others to be sold off when the property market is hot. You have laughed at them while watching them on screen, now prepare to be green with envy as you check out these luxurious houses of your favorite funny stars.

Bill Cosby: Pacific Palisades, Undisclosed Amount

Bill Cosby may call prison his home today, but there was a time the actor owned several homes, including this one in Pacific Palisades.  The comedian, most famous for starring in The Cosby Show for many years, has been convicted of indecent assault and is now serving his sentence.

His home in Pacific Palisades is a perfect home for the rich and famous with its 4,500 square-feet of living space.  Even from the outside, it's obvious that the design is Tudor Revival style, popular during the 1890s until the 1940s. However, this was not his residence during his house arrest, rather, he was confined to his home in Cheltenham, Pennsylvania.

Amy Schumer: Manhattan, ~ $18.9 Million

Amy Schumer became famous because of the sketch comedy Inside Amy Schumer on Comedy Central. But her big ticket was NBC's Last Comic Standing where she was a contestant in its 5th season. Schumer has had many homes in the past, but she currently lives in this very luxurious and expensive pad located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, New York.

The funny lady bought the penthouse for a whopping $18.9 million which is reportedly a great deal already because of a huge price drop. The place has 3,000 square feet of living space, 5 bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms.

It appears that the TV show Saturday Night Live opened doors to many famous comedians today. One of them being Chris Rock, who purchased this house back in the 1990s when his career was just taking off and he was part of SNL. We have no idea if he paid cash or took out a home equity loan to pay for the house, or whether or not it has home insurance.

What we do know is that this house, built in the 20th century, has 3,700 square feet of living space, 2 bedrooms, a roof terrace, and a 2-car garage. The comedian must love the house because he has lived in it for 20 years!

Martin Short: Beachwood Canyon, ~ $1.1 Million

Martin short is considered by many as one of Hollywood's most beloved comedians.  He also started his career in Saturday Night Live, and even had his own TV show, The Martin Short Show. He is also well known for his movies Three Amigos, Father of the Bride, and Mars Attacks.  The comedian is able to afford all the luxuries in life, including this Cape Cod-style cottage in Beachwood Canyon.

We are not sure whether he bought the house for himself, because reports claim that he purchased the house for his daughter Katherine. The 1,836 square foot home includes 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms,  and is said to be close to nature, being surrounded by trees.

Robin Williams:  Napa, ~ $18.1 Million

Comedy actor Robin Williams broke many hearts when he passed away in 2014.  After making people laugh for many years, he left this world in a very sad and heartbreaking way. Some of his most famous roles were in the movies Good Morning, Vietnam, Mrs. Doubtfire, Hook, Aladdin, and Jumanji.

Not to mention the TV show he became famous for, Mork & Mindy.  Williams left behind this beautiful 640-acre estate of his in Napa, California, which he called 'Villa Sorriso,' or the villa of smiles. A perfect name for the world's greatest comedy actor's home.  The limestone-clad mansion is said to be massive, offering 20,000 square feet of living area, with 5 bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, a 4-bedroom caretaker's house, a library, a billiards room, and a home theater that can seat 12 people.

Steve Martin is a beloved funnyman to many American viewers.  He is best remembered for films like Three Amigos, Roxanne, Father of the Bride I & II, Cheaper by the Dozen 1 & 2, and The Pink Panther.  His career began writing for The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, and later on he moved to TV shows and films.

With a huge net worth, Martin didn't need a home equity loan to purchase his 7,377-square-foot mansion in Montecito that sits on 5.86 acres of land.  The lovely home surely has home insurance to protect its entirety, including the 4 bedrooms, 5.5 bathrooms, and the separate guest house besides the main house.

It's not only the young comedians in this list who started out as standup comics, take Bob Newheart! He hit the jackpot when The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart, a collection of his comic monologues, became a best-seller worldwide. Of course, the TV show The Bob Newheart Show followed after that.

The actor sure did not get a home equity loan so he could buy this Bel Air mansion of his for $15.5 million. His Mediterranean-style house is 9,169-square-foot large, spread across 1.37 acres of land and includes 5 bedrooms, 8 bathrooms, a lagoon pool, and a guest apartment.

Lily Tomlin: Los Feliz, ~ $7.149 Million

Before Lily Tomlin found success in comedy films, she started out as a stand-up comic, and also she has had performances Off-Broadway in the 1960s.  The TV show Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In was her big break, and she starred in films like Nashville, The Late Show , Big Business, and Tea with Mussolini.  Tomlin found her home base in a Mediterranean estate in Los Feliz in California.

She bought it during the 80s at the height of her success.  The home, that's built during the 1920s, is located in the gated Laughlin Park, and includes 4 bedrooms, 4 baths, a swimming pool, and a copper sun room.

Larry David started as a stand-up comedian, just like most of the stars on this list.  He found fame not by acting in comedies, but rather in writing for them, especially after co-creating the hit TV series Seinfeld, along with Jerry Seinfeld. In case you don't know, David was the head writer of the famous show.

His choice of home base is in Pacific Palisades, where he owns a 11,272 square-foot home that has 7 bedrooms, 10 baths, fireplaces, and an enormous guest house.  The best feature of the home is the deck connected to the master bedroom that overlooks the ocean.

Not many know that comedian Ricky Gervais started a career in the entertainment industry not as a comic but a pop star. This happened in the 80s when he was the singer of a new wave band called Seona Dancing.  He turned his sights on comedy, with his big break in the form of the Talk Show Meet Ricky Gervais.  However the project that he became most famous for was the BBC TV show The Office.

Eddie Murphy is probably the most successful comedians in Hollywood. He started out as part of Saturday Night Live but eventually transitioned to films. He is famous for films like 48 Hrs, Beverly Hills Cops, and The Nutty Professor.

Fame comes hand in hand with a fat bank account, which is why the actor invested in real estate with this gigantic house of his in Beverly Hills. His mansion looks more like a resort than a house. Woody Allen's life has been surrounded by controversies but he doesn't seem to be bothered much by them, nor has it stopped him from making films.  Before becoming a filmmaker, Allen was a comedian first, but since his transition he has made over 40 critically acclaimed films.

The comedian and director has a gorgeous English county-style home in Manhattan that he shares with wife Soon-Yi Previn.  The designer of the house described his design inspiration being a mixture of American and English country houses that are timeless. The decorations are some of Allen's treasured collections that he has owned for many years.

Jim Carrey is a hugely successful comedy actor. He gained prominence with his appearance in the TV show In Living Color, but he found stardom with films like Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Dumb and Dumber, and The Mask.

Besides making films, Sandler later on produced his own films, as well.  Some of the actor's famous blockbusters include The Wedding Singer, The Waterboy, Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore and many more.  No wonder he can afford luxuries such as this house in Bel Air that costs a whopping $42.5 million!

A Saturday Night Live alumni, Chevy Chase is one of the original cast members of the show, and this was his very first gig.  He is famous for his line “I’m Chevy Chase… and you’re not” in the Weekend Update segment of the show, where he was the original anchor.

Despite being semi-retired, Chase still has a $50 million net worth and many real estate properties like this estate in East Hampton, New York.  His 12,000 square-foot house sits on 2.3 acres of land, and it has 10 bedrooms!

However the Bridesmaids and Spy actress and her husband, actor Ben Falcone are said to be renting out this 1940s bungalow today at $10,000 per month, since they have moved in to their new 9,000 square-foot mansion that's also in Toluca Lake.  They originally plan was to sell this three-bedroom pad of theirs at $1.4 million but we guess they changed their minds.
